Welcome to the Near South Side

Chicago's Near South is a community reborn. It is home to thriving businesses, five historic districts, covers at least eight TIF Districts; and includes major Cultural and Educational institutions in the City of Chicago. Looking today at the area just south of the Loop, from Lake Michigan west to the Chicago River, you'll find a vibrant place where you can live, work, play, study, and shop.

UPCOMING EVENTS IN THE NEAR SOUTH:

We Need your Input!
Join us for a follow up discussion about how to improve South Grant Park and the South Loop Community.

When: Monday, July 31, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Where: Columbia College Chicago, 618 S. Michigan Avenue, Stage 2
Who: Residents and business owners in the South Loop!

Based on the quickly developing South Loop and increasing density forecasted for the area, public spaces are becoming much more of an amenity to the community. NSPB is hosting a public input session to gather ideas from you regarding opportunities for improvements for the southwest corner of Grant Park at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Roosevelt Road.
Currently housing Magdelena Abakanowicz's Agora Sculpture, this forgotten area serves as a catch all space for numerous public events. Unlike the north end of Grant Park, which holds Millennium Park as an anchor, this south corner is unfinished and holds enormous opportunity.
This is the second of three community meetings.

THE NEAR SOUTH SIDE - A PLACE TO LIVE, PLAY AND WORK
From young singles to empty-nesters, people are finding homes in new high-rise towers, in rehabilitated coach houses, in lofts converted from old warehouses, or in communities of new townhouses.
Explore our diverse neighborhoods and visit the restaurants, retail shops, museums, galleries and historic sites of spots like Printers Row, Chinatown, the Prairie Avenue Historic District, Motor Row, and Central Station for just a start. Experience amazing events at McCormick Place, the nation's largest convention center; or peruse the White Sox schedule for a home game at U.S. Cellular Field.
All in all, the Near South encompasses many amenities from retail, health care, fitness, churches, hospitals... the essentials that link you to the community. It's also a center for education. Over 24 colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher learning call the Near South home.
